Spina Bifida Family Support was started surprisingly after an IEP meeting during my son's 6th grade year. After asking the teachers in attendance at the IEP meeting if there were any other children within the school system with spina bifida, besides my son, they began naming former students of theirs personally. I had thought about starting a support group for sometime, but this meeting was to be the catalyst to spear head me into action. We have lived in the State of Indiana for several years now and had not met one other family raising a child with spina bifida.

Fortunately, we have now met other children and have begun to spread the word in our local community of this support group. My hopes are to not only meet these families and have our children socialize with children that are also living with spina bifida, but to be of support to each other and utilize our experiences to assist one another in our endeavors to raise healthy, happy and responsible children.
